We live in uncertain times, though I venture to guess, people have felt that way since the fall of man. It is so easy to get caught up in the storm of life and feel like we are being overwhelmed by it. One of my favorite Bible characters is Peter. He has been ever since we sang about in church choir as a child. I relate so much to him. He loves Jesus, he has seen the power of Jesus and yet he still allows his fears to drive his actions. During a storm, Jesus called Peter to get out of the boat and walk to him on the waves. Peter answered that call, but like so many of us got distracted by the looming storm clouds and allowed his fear to take over; he immediately began to sink. But, the moment Peter put his focus back on the Lord he was able to continue on to the safety of His arms.
There will always be storms in life but those storms also allow us an incredible opportunity to witness the absolute power of Christ. I have been feeling so powerless lately over things that do have the power to impact the lives of everyone in the world. We are all connected; several viruses have proven that. But, man, I am so very thankful that the Lord is not powerless! And, rather than shrinking and sinking into the waves of fear, I am going to fix my eyes on Jesus, and eagerly await His call to me to step out of the boat and witness His incredible power.
Job 26:7-14
“God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight. He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds. He created the horizon when he separated the waters: he set the boundary between day and night. The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke. By his power the sea grew calm. By his skill he crushed the great sea monster. His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and his power pierced the gliding serpent. These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?”
What whispers of the Lord’s power do you see around you? While that may seem like a rhetorical question, I really do want to hear from you. We are called to share with one another as “iron sharpens iron”. I see whispers of His power in many things but today I am in awe of the beauty and splendor of the goldfinch.
Just beautiful Rae
