The Regulars

I cannot believe how many different types of birds come to visit. I am spoiled. I see more wildlife through my front window than I do when I go out and actively seek it.

These are most of my regular visitors. It is funny how protective I feel about them. I love squirrels, but I suddenly find myself obsessed with chasing them away from the feeders. I wouldn’t mind allowing them some of the food but those critters will sit and eat ALL of the food.

Today I noticed a blue jay diving at a hawk perched in a tree. It was frantic. I walked over to the tree in hopes that the hawk would move on. I love that hawk but I couldn’t help but feel protective over what I am assuming to be the blue jays nest.

Seriously?! I don’t know what these birds did without me. (Please note the sarcasm) Actually, I know exactly what they did, they foraged for food or found food in other feeders. They dealt with the squirrels taking the food, and predators searching for their eggs. In fact the blue jay is a predator of other birds nests. But, for some reason I feel the need to control the narrative and make their lives easier. Only when I remind myself of the truth am I able to rest and truly enjoy the nature around me.

Psalm 147:8-9 Who covers the heavens with clouds, who provides rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow on the mountains. He gives to the beast it’s food, and to the young ravens which cry.

  1. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful photographs. And your commentary is so eloquent. I’m looking forward to seeing and reading more from you.

  2. In a Jewish “Kaddish” daily book I am reading, one of the sayings says we need to feed the animals before we feed our selves everyday. I really liked that. Your feelings on taking care of the birds may give you an in sight as to how I ended up with so many starving cats.

    1. Ha! I love that! At least you set the limit at 10. I was always one to bring home status so you get no judgement from me!
