The Cardinal Rule

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves God is born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:7

As I was watching our fairly elusive cardinals today, I began to wonder if the origin of the Cardinal Rule had anything to do with cardinals and how incredibly attentive and loving they are with one another. So, I looked it up. On definitions.net it lists the Cardinal Rule as a fundamental rule, upon which other matters hinge. Hinge stems from the latin word cardinalis.

In other words, it had little to no connection to these sweet birds… but it should! I am gaining more and more appreciation for how well they treat one another. They share seeds with one another, even going so far as shelling the seeds for one another. I sit back in awe at how God uses birds to show us how we should be treating one another.

I managed to get a few pictures of this beautiful couple today but they haven’t become overly comfortable with my presence yet and give me very small windows in which to frame them.
